2010 US Cenus jobs

About a month ago my pastor made an announcement that the government will be hiring workers on a part time basis with the 2010 census. I thought this would be a good way to make some extra money.

Last night was my testing appointment. It is truly entertaining to watch others in a testing environment. The tester explained the instructions to us as if we were in elementary school. As insulting as it sounds, it was actually necessary. Few people did have trouble with completing the application. As the 30 minute skills test begun, I began to think about the show "Are you smarter than a 5th grader"? The questions on the test are not SAT/ACT caliber but it does require you to use basic reading, math and analysis skills.

As I left the testing center, I thought about the possibility of being hired with the government as a census taker and how the job would be if I had to go door to door checking the status of homes. For $16.25/hour paid weekly, I will do it.

  1. Jo I also took the test and observed the people in a state of panic. One lady sitting near me who works as a clerk in our city hall stated that she had been doing the practice test online and she scored very low. She said the test will drive you crazy with confusion. So now I'm nervous because I didnt know there was a practice test and I'm thinking surely this lady is competent and shes working everyday using her brain and I havent in 2 1/2 yrs so maybe I shouldnt take the test. When I started the test I was actually laughing out loud and looking around the room to see if others were shocked at how simple it was. People were looking really stressed and you would have thought they were taking the mcat or gre they were very intense. I was one of the first to finish and I checked my answers thinking maybe I was reading it incorrectly. When the lady graded the test since I finished first my test was at the bottom and was last to be graded. I watched as she was marking what look like over half the test in red on the papers. Now I'm nervous again thinking she was marking what was correct but when she got to mine and only made one mark and then double checked it, she turned and said you did great you only missed one. I burst into laughter and decided that maybe the others have testing anxiety or something. My county pays 17.00 and .55 for milage and Im thinking good pay for intresting work and a good way to get some exercise in also.
